Bio
Dr. Melanson was born and raised in Dartmouth. After completing a BSc in Biology at Dalhousie University in 1975, he went on to attend the Faculty of Dentistry there. He graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1980 and went into private practice in Dartmouth.
In 1982, he joined with his classmate and friend Dr. Goodine to found Alderney Dental Group in the historic Stern’s Building in downtown Dartmouth. Dr. Sunita Sharma joined the Group in 2007.
Dr. Melanson and his team make every effort to build positive and long lasting relationships with patients. His care philosophy is that patients should be fully aware of their treatment options and that dental care should be provided in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. He pursues excellence in dentistry and is particularly interested in aesthetic dentistry, implant dentistry, and CAD/CAM computer generated restorations. He works closely with a network of dental specialists and lab technicians to provide thoughtful treatment plans for his patients. Dr. Melanson is a member of the Canadian Dental Association, the Nova Scotia Dental Association, the Atlantic Implant Study Club, and the Academy of General Dentists.
As a lifelong resident of Dartmouth, Dr. Melanson has a deep appreciation for local history. He enjoys reading and travelling, and is particularly fond of dining out and fly fishing. He and his wife Patty live in Dartmouth and they have three children.
