The Nunavut Oral Health Program provides oral health prevention and treatment for children up to grade seven, as well as fluoride varnish applications for children in grade eight and above.

Program services are provided by dentists, dental therapists, dental hygienists, territorial community oral health coordinators and community oral health coordinators.

Children who are enrolled in this program are eligible for dental screenings, which include a full examination of the teeth and gums.

Following the initial screening, sealants, temporary fillings, extractions, fluoride varnish and referrals for additional treatments will be available as deemed necessary by the dental professionals. These services are offered at no charge to participating families.

As part of the program, children are provided with resources to learn more about proper oral hygiene, and they can win prizes for taking good care of their teeth. Participants also receive food coupons as an incentive.

Program services are provided at dental clinics at health centres, schools, daycare centres, community centres and community health fairs during the fall and winter. An appointment is required, and patients should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled visit.

Families wishing to enroll their children in the program should download and complete a Consent for Screening form and return it to a dental clinic at a school or health centre location.

Dental locations are subject to change. For up-to-date clinic and enrollment information, families should contact the Government of Nunavut Dental Health Services.
